What are puzzle libraries?
A puzzle library is a free, community-based lending and exchange system where people can borrow, swap, or donate jigsaw puzzles. It functions much like a Little Free Library for books.
- Location: They can be hosted by neighbors (residential yards or porches), public libraries, or community centers.
- How They Work: They operate on a “take one, leave one” or “take a puzzle, return when finished” basis.
- Purpose: The goal is to provide a sustainable, cost-effective way to swap completed puzzles rather than buying new ones or storing them.
- Structure: They are typically small, weatherproof boxes or dedicated shelves or community cabinets containing a variety of puzzle brands and piece counts for all ages and skill levels.
- Accountability: Borrowed puzzles are sometimes marked with stickers encouraging their return so others can enjoy them too.
Puzzle libraries use the honor system and promote sustainability and community connection by allowing enthusiasts to exchange completed puzzles for new ones.
